Nissan Mitsubishi Merger Ruled Out — Carlos Ghosn
Carlos Ghosn said that a full merger between Nissan and Mitsubishi is ruled out, while inaugurating Mitsubishi’s new facility.
Carlos Ghosn, the Chairman of Mitsubishi Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co, said in a statement that a full merger of both the companies is ruled out. This contradicts the statement that surfaced online saying Nissan and Renault will help Mitsubishi recovering from losses.
The Chairman told Reuters that "Mitsubishi has to reform itself" and there is no full merger on the table. The statement was made when Carlos Ghosn was attending the inauguration of Mitsubishi's new production facility in Indonesia.
Nissan purchased the controlling stakes in Mitsubishi for $2.3 billion, following the vehicle economy scandal. Both companies were assessing the joint manufacturing of utility and lifestyle pickup trucks in the Southeastern part of Asia.
Carlos Ghosn said that Mitsubishi has its way of doing things and in the next three years, Mitsubishi is eyeing an increase in market share of 4 percent in Indonesia, according to Osamu Masuko, the CEO of Mitsubishi.
