NIO EVE Concept Revealed — Is This The Autonomous Family EV Of The Future?
NIO, the electric carmaker formerly known as NextEV has revealed the EVE concept autonomous electric car concept at SXSW 2017.
Chinese-backed electric carmaker NIO has revealed the EVE concept electric vehicle at the South by Southwest show in Austin, Texas.
The EVE is the second concept from NIO, the startup which was formerly known as NextEV. The EVE comes just four months after NIO revealed its EP9 hypercar which broke the Nurburgring record for an electric car with a time of 7:05.12.
The NIO EVE, unlike the EP9, is designed with the family of future in mind. The EVE features sliding doors, a panoramic roof, rear seats that recline back allowing owners to catch up with their siesta time.
The EVE features Level 4 autonomy (a vehicle that can handle all aspects of driving in most conditions, even if a human driver doesn't respond when asked to take over controls) but can be driven by people as well. Passengers can interact with the EVE's artificial intelligence engine called NOMI to control the car.
NIO has partnered up with Mobileye, which develops camera-based systems to help drivers avoid collisions, Nvidia (which has developed an artificial intelligence computing platform) and NXP Semiconductors, the world's largest chip supplier to the automotive industry.
NIO expects the EVE to enter production in 2019 and the electric carmaker will start with the United States followed by Europe.
