Renault India has confirmed that it will introduce five new models in the country in the next five years. Several reports surfaced on the internet suggesting that the next hot product from the French manufacturer will be the new generation Symbol C-segment sedan, to replace Scala.
The year 2016 was clearly the best year for the manufacturer in India because of the high sales figures set by Kwid. For the first time since Renault's arrival in India in 2008, the firm was able to break the 1,00,000 car sales mark last year.
A fresh set of pictures of the new generation Symbol sedan have been leaked online and the model was spotted in Brazil. The images are posted by Autopolis and they reveal the new design language of the Renault family.
The new Symbol has C-shaped DRLs incorporated into headlamps and the grille design is directly taken from the all-new Koleos SUV. The rear design looks a bit boxy and there is no resemblance to the car in terms of design which the Symbol is about to replace.
The new C-segment is based on Renault's B0 platform. If the firm is planning to bring this platform to India, it will help Renault to save the dependency on Nissan. The current models of Renault are using Common Module Family (CMF) jointly developed by Renault-Nissan Alliance.
Under the hood of the Symbol is a 1.6-litre K4M petrol engine and the diesel variant will be powered by the same 1.5-litre dCi unit as the Duster. We can expect Renault to offer the Symbol with manual and AMT transmission choices for both oil burners.
Recently, Sumit Sawhney of Renault India said that the company need to put in at least 80 percent local content for its new models in order to price the products aggressively in the sensitive Indian market.
The new generation Symbol will slot in under the Duster in Renault's product lineup. The C-segment sedan is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. Once it is launched, the Symbol will take on the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento.
