New Maruti Alto 800 Launch Date Revealed — Will It Push Back The Kwid?
The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 will be launching in 2018 with upgraded interior features and based on a new platform.
The entry-level hatchback segment was dominated by Maruti Suzuki for years until other carmakers soon joined to cash in on the opportunity. Now, being a very competitive segment, Maruti Suzuki is feeling the heat from the Renault Kwid, and in a bid to reclaim popularity, the carmaker will launch the new Alto 800.
The venue is the 2018 Auto Expo, where Maruti Suzuki will showcase an Alto 800 concept and soon follow up with a launch the same year. The new Alto 800 is expected to feature updated equipment, as the current generation vehicle is showing its age, especially when compared to the Renault Kwid.
The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 will be based on the company's next generation platform, which will be lighter, without compromising its structural rigidity. Maruti's next generation platform has already seen success in India in the form of the new Baleno and the Ignis.
Also, Maruti Suzuki could introduce a diesel-powered Alto 800 before the BS-VI (BS6) norms come into action by the year 2020. The diesel engine could be the same that did its duty on the Celerio, a twin-cylinder diesel engine built in-house by Maruti Suzuki.
Regarding equipment, the next generation Maruti Suzuki Alto will feature navigation, along with a host of essential bits such as standard ABS, airbags, and a speed warning system. 2018 will also see the launch of the new Swift, pictured in the image gallery below.
