Honda is close to completing the development of the second generation Amaze subcompact sedan. The new Honda Amaze will be an all-new model from the Japanese company.

Honda is likely to debut the new Amaze at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The appearance will mark the global reveal of this model, unlike the first-generation model which was unveiled in Thailand.

Honda might showcase the HR-V SUV at the expo as well since the company expects it to follow Amaze launch in India.

The new Honda Amaze is being developed at Honda's R&D base in Thailand, just the current model, with inputs from Honda India Engineering team.

The new Amaze is expected to carry a host of upgrades, including a more powerful version of the 1.5-litre oil burner. The petrol model will also be available, and the company is closely watching the performance of the diesel AMT variant of newly launched Maruti Dzire. This will help strategise its automatic offering on the new Amaze.

With the Maruti Dzire segment leading mileage figures of 22 km/l - petrol; 28.4 km/l - diesel, Honda will look to better the fuel efficiency of its new Amaze.

The new-generation Honda Amaze is expected to be wider and roomier; however, its overall footprint will not grow much as the Amaze falls under the sub-4 metre requirement.

Additionally, Honda has planned to offer the new Amaze will new features, including a new climate control and a new connectivity and music-related interface.

The upcoming Honda Amaze will continue to be underpinned by the same platform borrowed from the Brio hatchback, which underpins the Mobilio and the BR-V.

While we are yet to see if Honda will reveal a production or a concept versions of the Amaze at the 2018 Auto Expo, the launch of the production version in India is expected around August or September 2018.

DriveSpark Thinks!

Honda has been concentrating on premium models in India; however, the Amaze, which is a mass market model, will help achieve numbers for the Japanese carmaker. The current model continues to sell in the range of 2000 units a month, and that is indeed a considerable number in India.
