2017 Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare: Day 2 - Samrat Yadav Leads In Ultimate Cars And R Nataraj In Bikes
Day 2 of the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare powered by Mobil 1 has concluded, here are the details.
After leading the race on Day 1, Samrat Yadav and S N Nizami maintained the lead on the second day of the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare too. Their Maruti Suzuki Gypsy covered the second leg of the rally in 04:55:04.
The Second day of the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare was when the participants had to go through the Super Special Stage (SSS) in the city of Chitradurga, which was where the first stage culminated on Day 1 of the rally. The super special stage concept was introduced just last year with the objective of testing the skills of the rally drivers and riders on the test and also to bring the rally action closer to city limits, which would then draw the spectators.
The super special stage on 18 July was held at a 2 kilometre-long dirt track, and was the first of the two super special stages to be held in the 2017 edition of Dakshin Dare.
Finishing with a time of 04:58:13 Team Maruti Suzuki, with Suresh Rana and co-driver Ashwin Naik in their Grand Vitara were at second place in the Ultimate Cars category by the end of Day 2. They were closely followed by Sandeep Sharma and Karan Arya in their Gypsy, with a time of 04:59:50.
The motorcycles were as usual, quicker than the cars, and with a time of 03:10:41, R Nataraj was the fastest in the Ultimate Bikes category. Abdul Wajid took a close second place covering the distance in 03:11:23 and Sanjay Kumar lost his leading position from Day 1, covering the distance in 03:11:30 coming third on day 2.
Samrat Yadav was quoted as saying, "The competition seems to get tough and edgy with each day. The Super Special Stage is something that adds further challenges where our driving skills are tested on dedicated tracks. We are managing to maintain a very minute difference between other top competitors and us."
The next leg of the rally will start from Aimangala and move towards Belgaum on 19 July. Watch this space for further updates.
DriveSpark Thinks!
The Super Special Stage did help pull crowds from the city of Chitradurga while putting the competitors to the test at the same time. With another Special Stage in the offing and exploring legs on new and tough terrain ahead, the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare does seem exciting, especially given that the competitors timings are so close to each other.
