Recall Alert: Mercedes-Benz Issues Massive Global Recall Over Fire Fears — 1 MIllion Affected
Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for cars globally after cases of fire in the engine compartment were reported.
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz will recall around one million cars across its models globally after reports of a fire in the engine compartment caused due to a faulty fuse.
Mercedes' parent company, Daimler announced the recall, after 51 cases of fires were reported, the majority of them from the US. The models affected include the C-Class, E-Class, CLA, GLA, and GLC, manufactured between 2015 and 2017.
The German carmaker claims that the affected models are fitted with a defective ‘Current Limiter', which causes the starter motor to overheat when the car requires numerous start attempts.
In such a situation, the starter motor overheats and melts nearby parts, which causes a fire in the engine compartment. Of the models affected, 307,629 units are from the US, while the breakup of cars affected in other parts of the world is yet to be detailed.
To fix the issue, Mercedes says that an additional fuse will be installed, while the same will be done to other cars leaving the production line.
Speaking of Mercedes, the new E-Class Cabriolet was recently unveiled and below is detailed image gallery.
