1,000bhp Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar Powertrain Revealed — F1 Tech For The Road

Mercedes-AMG has revealed more details about the powertrain of its upcoming Project One hypercar.

Mercedes-AMG's Project One is one of two hypercars being built by Formula One teams that will soon hit the roads.

However, unlike the Aston Martin Valkyrie (which is being developed alongside Red Bull Racing), AMG's halo hypercar is quite literally bringing F1 tech to the road some of which was recently revealed by the German carmaker.

The Mercedes-AMG hypercar is powered by the road-spec version of the 1.6-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that redlines at 11,00rpm and is helped along by four electric motors.

The two motors up front, drive the front wheels while one motor at the rear keeps the turbos spooled up and the other is connected to the crankshaft.

The combined system output of the Mercedes-AMG Project One is over 1000bhp with the engine producing around 750bhp thanks to a groundbreaking thermal efficiency of 40 percent.

The rest of the 1,000bhp comes from the electric motors with the two motors up front capable of driving the car in electric-only mode for 25-kilometres.

Power is sent to the wheels through an 8-speed AMT gearbox.
