McLaren Unveils Radical New Wrap Option For 570GT — Bird-Brained Or Featherweight Brilliance?
McLaren has revealed a bizarre new wrap option for the 570GT with the help of biomimicry
British carmaker McLaren has revealed a brand new wrap option for its 570GT and lets just say it takes the idea of being featherweight a bit too seriously.
The feather wrap is the work of the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division of the British supercar marque.
For those of you crying 'fowl', MSO uses 10,000 carbon-veined fake wings for the wrap which takes 300 hours to be made and applied.
"Our engineers and designers have long been inspired by nature in our aim to create the lightest and most aerodynamic shapes on the road. We call this biomimicry," said Robin Crane, McLaren's Biomimicry Specialist and one of the people behind the radical wrap option.
"And it was on a beautiful day walking around our Woking campus that one of us looked up at the birds circling our lake, then picked up a feather from the ground and placed it on a car... That turned into a conversation with the craftsmen and women at MSO that led to the creation of the Feather Wrap."
Commenting on the new featherweight option for the McLaren 570GT Crane said, "We're not usually ones to crow about our achievements, but I think we've scored a birdie with this one."
Featherbrained customers who want their McLaren 570GT customised with the new feather wrap will get to order the new on April 1, 2017.
Happy April Fools Day!
