McLaren Considering Four Seat GT Supercar
McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt indicates a 2+2 GT configuration would be considered; however, a four-door McLaren including SUV and crossovers is out of the question.
McLaren's product range could expand to include a four-seater, according to CEO Mike Flewitt. Speaking to Auto Express at the 2017 Auto Shanghai, the Mclaren boss revealed that a four-seat McLaren is something his company is considering; however, he ruled out a four-door model: "I can see four seats, but not four doors."
He added that it could be either Sports Series or Ultimate Series and he could see the GT moving in that direction if it could have at least a four-seat layout.
Despite being non-committal, the manufacturer's ambitious target to launch 15 models in the coming five years, exploring new avenues or genres seems to be necessary.
With the McLaren 720S debut, we witnessed the beginning of this attempt, no doubt that McLaren will have some surprises along the way.
One thing that McLaren boss made it clear is that four seats will not equal four doors. As of now, at least, McLaren continues to be firm on not making anything that might relate a sedan, never mind a crossover.
In the meantime, the new McLaren 720S launched in Geneva is drawing record numbers of sales. McLaren boss revealed to AutoExpress that 1,400 orders which means the car is already sold out for 2017.
