Maruti Suzuki Is Finally Ditching The Diesel Engines By Fiat

Maruti Suzuki will replace the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS and 1.6-litre DDiS diesel engines with its in-house built engine. This will save a lot of money for the company. Currently, Maruti Suzuki pays a royalty fee to Fiat.

The 1.6-litre DDiS diesel engine is deployed in the currently sold Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine is used in several other models such as the Swift hatchback, Swift Dzire, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross.

For every engine used, Maruti Suzuki had to pay a hefty amount of royalty fee to Fiat. With the introduction of a new 1.5-litre diesel engine, the company can save that money and invest in other sectors.

The indigenously developed 1.5-litre BS-IV compliant diesel engine will be initially used in the Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MUV. The company will then analyse the response for the engine, and if the diesel motor is successful, it will be introduced across other models.

Around 14 popular cars from different manufacturers use Fiat-sourced engines. These comprise of several models from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Chevrolet.

Maruti Suzuki is preparing for the launch of third-generation Swift hatchback and Swift Dzire compact sedan in the Indian market. The company has already started the production of new-gen Swift Dzire in India.
