Rumor! Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel Variant Discontinued
The noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels of the Maruti Celerio diesel model has been reported as high.
Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the diesel variant of the Celerio in India. India's largest car manufacturer is yet to make an official announcement about the status of the Celerio diesel version.
As per Maruti Suzuki's official website, the price list of the Celerio diesel is not listed and only the petrol and CNG pricing is available. The Celerio hatchback was the first in the country to be equipped with the affordable Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT).
Maruti Suzuki launched the Celerio in India in 2014 with petrol and CNG versions. The small hatchback went on to earn good sales because of the AMT feature.
The company then introduced the diesel version in 2015 to take advantage of the impressive response to the Celerio. The Celerio was the first to break into the untapped AMT market, though an AMT was not offered on the diesel version.
The motor of the diesel variant of the Celerio is a 793cc, two-cylinder engine which developed 47bhp and 125Nm of torque. This motor was paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
With two-cylinder to churn out the power for the diesel motor of the Celerio, the NVH levels were quite high. Also, the 47bhp from the 793cc engine on the small hatchback was lacking in power compared to other rivals in the same price range.
Maruti and its dealers tried to increase sales by offering discounts close to Rs 1 lakh; however, that didn't change the sales figures of the Celerio diesel. This could be the reason behind discontinuing the Celerio diesel model.
This could potentially hamper the resale value of the Celerio diesel model in the country, also, the post sales and service. Even the spares needto be seen if Maruti will continue to support customers of Celerio diesel version.
