A couple of years ago, India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki introduced SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) in the country. Recently, some rumours have emerged that company's premium hatchback, the Baleno will get this technology.
Now, an information has surfaced on the internet revealing that the Baleno with SHVS technology could come to the Indian market later this year. The technology is likely to be introduced in the petrol version of the hatchback.
The carmaker's SHVS technology was first employed in the Ciaz diesel back in 2015 and later Ertiga hybrid diesel version also got the same technology. According to the rumours that surfaced before, it was said that the diesel version of Baleno will get the SHVS system.
It seems like Maruti Suzuki chose the petrol version of the Baleno due to its high demand. If the company does this, Baleno will be the first petrol-powered vehicle from Maruti to get the mild-hybrid system.
Currently, the Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. The petrol engine delivers 83bhp of power and 115Nm of torque, while the diesel motor generates 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque.
Baleno is one of the best-selling cars in the country with over 1 lakh bookings since its introduction in the country. The premium hatchback from Maruti is only retailed through Nexa showrooms.
Maruti Suzuki will be adding another version of the Baleno which comes equipped with a turbo-petrol engine. The new version, Baleno RS will be powered by a 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine that delivers 100bhp of power and 150Nm of torque.
