According to Autocar, the new cross-hatchback will make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo early next year but will not be a direct replacement for the Alto. The new Maruti hatchback is expected to hit showrooms sometime in 2018.
Details are still not out about what engine will sit under the bonnet of the new hatchback but it is expected that the Kwid rival will carry over the same 800cc and 1.0-litre engines that power the Alto.
The new car will be aimed directly at the Renault Kwid and will feature a similar SUV-inspired design to appeal to Indian customers who are increasingly being drawn towards the SUV look. The car is also expected to get a raised ride height compared to the Alto to complement its looks.
Maruti's new Kwid fighter is still almost a year away from hitting the roads of India. However, one car that is a lot closer to entering showrooms is the all-new Swift. Click on the image gallery below to view the latest photos of the Maruti Swift ahead of its launch in India.
