The Maruti Ignis like every car sold through a Nexa dealership is available in four different variants — Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha.

The Sigma variant of the Ignis is only available as a petrol while the both the petrol and diesel powered versions of Delta and Zeta variants of the new Ignis hatchback are available with both manual and AMT gearboxes.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Ignis will rival Mahindra's KUV 100 as it bids to claim the wallets of Indian customers.

Bookings for the Ignis as we reported earlier, have already started online on Maruti’s NEXA website and customers will have to shell out Rs 11,000 to book their own Ignis.

The main competition for the Diesel powered Ignis will be the Mahindra KUV100 which isn't as equipped as the new Maruti hatchback.

The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis Petrol uses the same 1.2-litre VVT engine found on the Swift and the Baleno hatchbacks. The engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or with an AMT gearbox

Maruti Ignis Diesel Specifications

The 1.3-litre diesel engine use by the Ignis is the tried and tested turbocharged 1.3-litre engine found under the bonnet of the Swift. The torquey diesel engine like its petrol sibling is mated to either 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.

The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis is based on the same small car platform from Suzuki that underpins the Baleno along with the upcoming 2017 Swift which will launch in India later this year.

2017 Maruti Ignis Design And Features

The all-new Maruti Ignis comesas a breath of fresh air in an overly crowded small car segment in India. The Ignis is unlike the rest of the cars in its price range that mostly look the same except for a few signature design cues, depending on which brand they are being sold under.

The 2017 Ignis mixes the looks of a tall-boy style hatchback with the chunkiness of an SUV. The Ignis hatchback features a narrow upper body, angled roofline and chunky wheel arches along with a boxy design.

Up front, the Ignis features U-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs flanking a twin-slat grille. The front bumper looks beefy and features a large air dam and plays host to the round fog lamps.

At the rear, the large taillamps blend in well with the various curves and creases of the rear end which are enhanced by the brawny rear bumper. Also, the rear window is perched at a rather obtuse angle to the rest of the boot lid, lending, even more character to thefunky rear end.

Inside, the Ignis includes a dual tone finish to the dash and the doors while the door handles and the central tunnel is up in same colour as the exterior in the top-end variant.

Also present is a tablet-like touchscreen infotainment system along with separate control panel for the climate control/HVAC system add character to the interior of the Ignis hatch.

The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis is available in six different colours, two of which - Pearl Arctic White and Silky Silver - are available in all variants.

The Glistening Grey paint job is not available in the top end Alpha variant while Urban Blue isn't available in the entry level Sigma trim level.

The final two colour options - Tinsel Blue and Uptown Red -are only available in the Delta and Zeta variants.

The top-spec Ignis Alpha variants will also be available in three dual tone paint jobs: Uptown Red with Midnight Black, Tinsel Blue with Midnight Black and Tinsel Blue with Pearl Arctic White.

Maruti will also allow owners to customize the roof and interiors of the car to create an Ignis that is uniquely theirs.

Maruti has also stuffed the Ignis full of multiple safety features as standard including ABS with EBD, Dual front airbags, seatbelt pretensioners with force limiters, ISOFIX child seat anchorage mounts and a pedestrian protection system.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis marks the start of a busy year ahead for Maruti as it gets ready to launch new cars including the Baleno and the new-generation Swift.
