Mahindra’s New-Generation Scorpio In The Works — To Be A Global Product

The North American Technical Center of Mahindra & Mahindra is working on the new-gen Scorpio. The latest iteration of the SUV is said to be a global product and will hit the roads by 2020.
The fourth-generation of the Scorpio will be built on the enhanced architecture. The design elements on the SUV will compete in the developed foreign markets. Mahindra plans to build an SUV and a pickup truck.
Mahindra is planning to enter the US market with a pickup truck based on the Scorpio. The product under development is crucial to enter the developed foreign markets such as North America and Europe.
Talking to ETAuto, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, Rajan Wadhera confirmed that the company had commenced the work on new-gen Scorpio. But he declined to provide more details.
The project is codenamed as Z101. The design of the SUV will be carried out by the North American Technical Center. Engineering and integration work will be handled by company's R&D facility in Chennai.
Mahindra is also working on a new utility vehicle which is expected to hit the roads by next 12 months. The new utility vehicle from Mahindra will take on the Toyota Innova Crysta in the Indian market.
Despite the fierce competition, the Scorpio is consistently clocking a sales figure of over 3,000 units per month. The fourth-gen Scorpio will be the first SUV from the company to feature new design language.
