Mahindra Racing Announces Exit From Moto3
Mahindra Racing's exit from Moto3 is a decision of the company's focus towards Formula E.
Mahindra joined the junior class of MotoGP in 2011, continued in the junior category as it gradually moved into Moto3 and won its first podium with Miguel Oliveira in 2013.
Mahindra Racing then made history as the first Indian manufacturer to claim a Grand Prix triumph with the help of Francesco Bagnaia in 2016 Assen race.
But that has changed, Mahindra Racing announced to exit Moto3 by the end of 2017 ending its stint in competitive motorcycle racing in the international arena.
The decision to exit comes with the racing outfit's focus towards electric racing; Formula E. The team recently secured its first win in Formula E, performing better than its stint in Moto3 this year.
The 2017 season has seen all its three outfits failing to make a mark in the four of the seven races, with no point scored. The decline seems to have prompted severe action, and Mahindra will stop participating in the series after the conclusion of the 2017 season.
Speaking about the exit, Mahindra Group's President of Group Communications and Ethics, and CEO - Ruzbeh Irani said, "Our strategic review of Mahindra Racing and Mahindra's two-wheeler businesses led us to the decision to withdraw from MotoGP. It has been a tremendous journey, and we would like to thank all of our staff, partners and collaborators who have contributed to our success during our seven years in the sport."
He added, "Formula E is providing us with an excellent international platform to raise awareness of the Mahindra Group, our technological capabilities and our mobility solutions on a global scale."
However, the company will continue to provide factory-backed support to the three outfits until the end of this season.
The change in the decision can also be seen as a way of clearing up funds for a possible onslaught in Dakar with a souped up version of the XUV500, which is currently being used in the Indian Rally Championship.

Mahindra Racing moving out of Moto3 will hamper the growth of any aspiring individuals in India to race in an international stage. Having said that, Mahindra Racing's possible entry to Dakar will put Indian rally drivers on the global map.
