Mahindra BAJA SAEIndia 2017: College Of Engineering Pune Claims Top Spot Again
College of Engineering, Pune continued from where it left off last year to claim the top spot at the 10th Mahindra Baja SAE India.
The 10th edition of the Mahindra BAJA SAE India recently concluded at the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) facility in Pithampur, near Indore. The 2017 edition of BAJA took place on 18–19th February.
About 415 teams registered for the 10th edition of the BAJA SAEIndia series, out of which 185 teams qualified for the finale. However, only 118 teams made it to the final Endurance round.Out of the 118 teams that made it to the endurance round, eight teams participated in the eBAJA event, the third time the electric event took place.
All the teams were competing for a combined prize chest of Rs 27,85,000 and for the first time, one of the teams in the fray was an international team in the form of BITS, Dubai.
College of Engineering, Pune who won last year, were announced as winners of the 10th edition of the BAJA series in India with Alard College of Engineering, Pune and Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar picking up the first runners-up and second runners-up trophies respectively. Singhad College of Engineering, Pune claimed the Top Spot in the eBAJA event.
From 2018 onwards, two BAJA events will take place in India, with one remaining at the Pitampur in Madhya Pradesh and the other organised at IIT Ropar in Punjab. This will allow 80-100 more teams to participate in the event from next year.
Speaking at the event, Dr Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, "10 years back we brought something unique like BAJA to India. That was the beginning of a wonderful journey. Every year we have worked hard to keep together and challenge ourselves and move towards one goal. And today when I see BAJA reaching new heights, I can confidently say, this is our success. Together with the support from sponsors, engineering colleges and the industry, we have completed a Decade of Dreaming, Daring and Driving. BAJA has given the young engineering talent an opportunity to showcase their skills, and it is heartening to see thousands of students coming together to celebrate this spirit of BAJA."
