Kia Stonic Images Leaked Ahead Of Official Debut
The Kia Stonic has been leaked online ahead of its official debut and resembles the Hyundai Kona crossover.
Here are the first images of the Kia Stonic subcompact SUV that comes close on the heels of Hyundai revealing its Kona subcompact SUV.
The pictures of the Kia Stonic was leaked online by Spanish media this week, giving us a first look at the company’s first compact SUV.
The images of the Kia Stonic published ahead of the SUV's official reveal at an event in Amsterdam later this week, and it is timed carefully to the unveiling of the Hyundai Kona, which was announced just last week.
The Stonic has a far more mainstream design language, unlike its Hyundai sibling. Kia's efforts to give each model a different character on the outside, especially up front where each vehicle incorporates their respective brand’s styling features, you can say that the Hyundai Kona and Kia Stonic are similar in design and not different.
Both the compact SUVs have a similar footprint and overall profile with both companies offering customisation choices like the two-tone colour themes with different colour roofs, with Kia going a step further by including the exterior mirror caps as well.
On the inside, Stonic's interiors are slightly different, with each SUVs receiving a different dashboard and trims. There is also a splash of colour in the Stonic with orange accents around the centre console.
Most likely the powertrains for the Kia Stonic will be similar to the specs of the Hyundai Kona. Hyundai has already confirmed an optional all-wheel drive system, along with several engines.
The engine includes a 145bhp 2.0-litre and a 173bhp 1.6-litre turbo. Markets outside North America will receive a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit and 1.6 diesel engines, while Hyundai also announced a pure-electric version as well.
DriveSpark Thinks!
With Kia all set to enter India, the new Stonic could be a strong model in the country with its modern and stylish design language. Hope Kia takes a cue of Indian markets sentiment towards stylish yet affordable vehicles and introduces the Stonic to India.
