Watch This 1,000BHP Rally Truck Defying Gravity
Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz tested its rally truck in the extreme snow conditions ahead of the Silk Way Rally.
Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz has been a dominant force in the Dakar Rally. It has 14 Dakar titles under its belt.
The Dakar Rally 2017 was also no different to that. The Russian team clinched the title with Eduard Nikolaev behind the wheel of the truck.
Now the Russian team is getting ready for the Silk Way Rally to be held in July 2017. Nikolaev took the Kamaz rally truck to the Transpolar region of Murmansk to test the truck under extreme snow conditions.
The Kamaz-4326 rally truck is popularly known as the ‘Terminator'. It is a fitting name as the ruck weighs a massive 10 tonnes.
The Kamaz-4326 truck draws power from a monstrous 16.2-litre V8 diesel engine producing 1,000bhp. To Test the new Continental 14.00 R20 164/160K HC tyres, Nikolaev reached a speed of 14km/h and jumped from the snow for 37-metres with a force of 12G.
It feels unreal to watch such a heavy truck getting airborne for such a distance. Especially the slow-mo video looks stunning as we get a peek into the skeleton of the truck. The team stated that tyres gripped the snow very well.
The suspension with a travel of 30cm withstood the impact and at the time of landing the truck was at its maximum speed. Nikolaev said, "To test the truck we went to Kirovsk, in the Murmansk region, to one of the snowiest regions in Russia."
Nikolaev added, "There, right through to the late spring, there's a lot of deep snow. For our KAMAZ-4326, these conditions are very similar to driving on the sands of South America or Africa."
The 2017 Silk Way Rally will commence from July 7 at Moscow's Red Square. The Kamaz team will tackle 14 stages and cover a distance of 9,608km across Russia, Kazakhstan, and China.
