Jeep Compass Prices In India Might Trigger A War Among SUVs
Jeep Compass will be locally manufactured at Ranjangaon facility and is expected to be priced aggressively.
Jeep India is gearing up to launch the new Compass SUV in the country in August 2017. As per reports, the base petrol variant of the Jeep Compass is expected to be launched with price tag of Rs 15 to 16 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).
The top variant of the Jeep Compass is expected to command a price tag of Rs 23 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). This is mainly attributed to the localisation of the Jeep Compass in India.
Jeep India will locally manufacture the Compass SUV at its Ranjangaon plant near Pune. With this price point, the Jeep Compass can trigger a price war with the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500.
Kevin Flynn, President and MD - FCA India, said, "It was a strategic decision to bring the Compass to India". Bookings for the Jeep Compass has begun and can be made via online as well as at Jeep dealerships with an amount of Rs 50,000.
The price point is lower because Jeep India is localising 65 percent of the parts of the SUV and manufacturing it at the Ranjangaon facility of Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles.
Currently, Jeep India retails the Wrangler Unlimited and the Grand Cherokee at a significant premium pricing. Both the vehicles are brought to India through the completely built unit (CBU), and that's the reason for the higher pricing.
With the Jeep Compass locally built and with 65 percent localisation, Jeep will able to price the Compass competitively.
Powering the Jeep Compass is a 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol unit churning out 160bhp and 260Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre Multijet oil burner producing 170bhp and 350Nm of torque.
Both the units will come paired to a 7-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual gearbox while the SUV will also receive four-wheel drive system as standard across variants.
