The Isle Of Man Has A BAC Mono As A Cop Car
The single-seat supercar BAC Mono is all set to govern the few speed limits enforced on the famed Isle of Man.
The Isle of Man police force has added a BAC Mono to its fleet to encourage safer driving on the Island that hosts the world-famous TT motorcycle race.
The world's first Mono police car puts a single officer inside BAC's open-air, track-focused roadster. The company has been utilising the Isle of Man's rural roads to test and further develop its Mono ever since launching it in 2011.
The Isle of Man has always been known as a speed freak's ultimate destination. Now, it looks like their police force wants to get in on the action too, as the Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) and the Isle of Man Constabulary have just unveiled the first-ever BAC Mono police car.
Claimed to be an "active member of the fleet", also, the Mono will be on display at some the festivals hosted on the Isle of Man.
Powering the BAC Mono is a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which can produce 371bhp and is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 274km/h.
The Mono will work along with the Isle of Man police forces range of unmarked superbikes that target unsafe riding on the restricted roads where the fastest cars hit 300km/h and the fastest bikes more than 330km/h during the TT race.
"It's a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike," said police chief Andy Greaves, who will pilot the supercar.
He added, "We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it's amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport."
