Indy 500 Crash Splits Car In Half
Pole sitter Scott Dixon ended up in an accident and failed to finish the race.
Indy 500 wouldn't be an intense motorsport without its share of some of the scariest accidents. The 2017 Indianapolis 500 had its fair share of an accident when the race car split into half.
Pole sitter Scott Dixon ended up in an accident and failed to finish the race after getting involved in a crash with Jay Howard.
The accident occurred when Howard lost control on lap 53 of the race, with Dixon hurling into him before darting into the air and crashing on top of an inside retaining wall.
Dixon's car was split into two as a consequence of the collision, but the tub did its work remaining intact, and both drivers were, fortunately, not injured.
The race was red flagged and stopped briefly for 18 minutes. Both Dixon and Howard were checked, cleared, and released following the accident.
