Hyundai To Reveal Second ‘N’ Performance Model In 2018
South Korean carmaker Hyundai has stated that it will reveal the second N performance model in 2018.
South Korean automaker Hyundai has stated that the N performance sub-brand will reveal a new model in 2018. The firm will also launch the i30N later this year.
Albert Biermann, Head of Hyundai's Vehicle Testing and High-Performance Development revealed this information to Autocar. He was speaking at the Kona launch event in South Korea.
No details of the new N performance model has been revealed. But Hyundai had previously hinted that the new model would rival the four-wheel-drive Ford Focus RS.
The Head of Hyundai's High-Performance Vehicle Development Centre, Joonhong Park stated that the N division would handpick only appropriate models from the Hyundai range.
Park said that Hyundai has no plans to have an N performance model for every car the company produces. The N Division will not integrate the electric, hybrid and fuel cell technologies into the N model.
Biermann said the emotion and character are the key reason not to use the alternative powertrains in such a short term. He said, "But for me, it's hard to imagine a performance car without an engine - although maybe that's me getting old."
Hyundai's first N performance model, the i30N will go on sale later this year. The hot hatch will lock horns with the likes of Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Several automakers are focusing on the performance vehicles to lure auto enthusiasts who love spirited driving. Hyundai is also up to the same task, and the new i30N hatchback is the very first step.
