Spy Pics: Hyundai Kona Compact SUV Spotted Undisguised
The Hyundai Kona compact SUV will be built on the i20 platform suggesting that it will be positioned below the Creta and rival the likes of Maruti Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
Hyundai Kona has been spotted testing in Portugal revealing that the compact SUV sports a genuine crossover design, thanks to the prominent plastic cladding.
While Hyundai has teased the Kona crossover SUV, the undisguised images reveal more of the Brezza and EcoSport rival. The spy images come courtesy of Autoweek and the second image from a Facebook user CARSPOTTING PORTUGAL.
Talking about the design, the Hyundai Kona front fascia steals the show; however, the rear profile is sharp in its own way. Along with the plastic cladding, the Kona is unmistakably a compact SUV.
The Hyundai Kona's design language is a departure from the South Korean's current crop of models. Except for the front grille, the front profile looks very much different. The twin headlamp design is something new from Hyundai.
As for the rear, the Hyundai Kona's floating roof - the latest automotive design trend - is featured with a two-tone paint scheme.
On the dimension front, the Hyundai Kona is based on the i20 premium hatchback platform and will share some of the components from the i30 as well, where it could use the latter's engine options.
The Hyundai Kona is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.4-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre diesel mill. A smaller yet efficient 1.0-litre could be offered as well.
Globally, the Hyundai Kona will rival the likes of Renault Kaptur, Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR and could threaten the Ford EcoSport as well.
