Honda WR-V Production Commenced In India
The production of the Honda's compact crossover, the WR-V has begun in India. The WR-V is expected to be launched in the Indian market by March 2017.
Honda revealed the WR-V crossover in Brazil last year and it is one of the key products for the Japanese automaker in the Indian market. The crossover is expected to be launched in India by March 2017.
Now, GaadiWaadi has spied the Honda WR-V in India, the production of the compact crossover has begun at the Honda's Tapukara manufacturing facility in Rajasthan ahead of its India launch.
The WR-V is based on the Honda's premium hatchback, the Jazz. Although the WR-V is based on the hatchback platform, it gets unique design cues to distinguish both the vehicles.
The WR-V features revamped front fascia with wide grille and chrome bar which extends all the way to the headlamps. To add to the crossover appeal. the WR-V gets black plastic cladding, beefy wheel arches and skid plates on the front and rear bumpers.
The Honda WR-V has higher ground clearance than the Jazz hatchback. The rear of the compact crossover features newly designed tail lamps, long tailgate and a chrome bar above the registration plate housing.
Although the interior of the WR-V has not been revealed, it is expected to share the dashboard and seats from its hatchback sibling, the Jazz. It might be a cost cutting strategy from the Japanese car manufacturer.
The India-spec WR-V is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.2-litre petrol motor. The transmission options would include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
The WR-V will hit the Indian roads by March 2017. The compact crossover might be launched with a price tag of around Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 9.5 lakh ex-showroom. Once launched in India, the WR-V will take on its segment rivals such as Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Fiat Avventura Urban Cross and Hyundai i20 Active.
