Honda NSX All-Electric Vehicle Hypercar Being Considered
Honda might employ the Acura EV concept Pikes Peak car's motor in a road car, potentially the next-generation Honda NSX hypercar.
We know that the current generation Honda NSX has taken a huge step towards electrification with its complex hybrid system; however, the next-generation Honda hypercar will go even further.
Honda is considering an all-electric NSX in its next-generation avatar. The all-electric Honda NSX will employ four electric motors to generate acceleration which could potentially sprint the NSX from 0 to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds.
As per the revelation of Honda to Autocar at a demo run of the 1000bhp, the NSX inspired 4-Motor Acura EV Concept Pikes Peak machine, Honda R&D chief Sekino Yosuke suggested that the motor could be employed in a production car.
Sekino Yosuke, Honda's head of research and development, during a demonstration of the Acura EV concept, said, "It's not just a competition car; I would like to make such a car in production, and there are some studies around that."
"We want our electric cars to be joyful to drive, and it is clear that this proposal, with around 1000bhp, is both joyful and uses technology that could one day reach production. We are evaluating what is possible now."
This means that the next-generation Honda NSX will make it more potent than a Porsche 918 Spyder. The 4-Motor Acura EV Concept, which weighs 1,500kg, finished third overall in last year's Pikes Peak Hill Climb event in Colorado, USA.
The 4-Motor Acura EV has a modified version of the SH-AWD powertrain in the production Honda NSX. The concept is claimed to the "world's first supercar with four-wheel independent torque allocation" as an electric motor powers each of the wheels.
What is interesting about the Acura EV is that its "four-wheel independent torque allocation" which gives the car incredible torque vectoring ability, as it's able to accelerate and decelerate each wheel individually.
When you pit the Acura EV with Honda's new Civic Type R, the hatch will have only just hit 100km/h, while the Acura EV will be doing double the speed.
However, the road going car's motor will, of course, need to be mostly different for reasons of range, longevity among others. But if the next-generation Honda NSX could get anywhere close to the performance of the Pikes Peak machine, the NSX could be a monster.
