New York ePrix: Mahindra Racing Clinches Double Podium
Mahindra Racing scored a double podium finish in the second race of the Formula E New York ePrix.
Mahindra Racing scored a double podium finish in the second race of the New York ePrix. DS Virgin driver Sam Bird won both the races and had a perfect Formula E weekend.
Bird started the race from pole position, but Mahindra Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist passed Bird in the first corner. But after a full course yellow flag incident, Bird resumed his attack. Finally, he took the lead on the tenth lap and Rosenqvist finished second.
Rosenqvist's teammate Nick Heidfeld tried to make a move but failed to do so. But he was behind his teammate throughout the race and finished third. Renault e.dams driver Pierre Gasly caught the Mahindra duo in the dying moments of the race.
But Gasly made a mistake and ran wide and damaged the front end of the car. But still, he managed to finish fourth. Lucas di Grassi, driving for ABT Schaeffler finished in the fifth position.
Thrilled with the race win, Bird said, "What a weekend not only for myself but for the team! What a car I was given this weekend - it was flying in qualifying, sensational energy management in the race - so hats off to DS Virgin Racing for giving me the best car they have ever given me."
