Ford is the third manufacturer to weed out CD player from cars after Toyota and Honda.
For the first time in 25 years, American auto major Ford is offering a car without a CD player. According to a report by NPR, Ford will offer the 2018 EcoSport with an upright touchscreen console where customers can access streaming services through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Add to that, SiriusXM Radio is available. There are also multiple USB ports and power outlets, along with a storage bin for devices. Ford is also introducing live TV via SlingPlayer to the 2018 Expedition. Both the models will feature the B&O PLAY Premium Audio System.
Ford is the third manufacturer to weed out CD player from cars after Toyota and Honda. Both the Japanese manufacturers excluded CD players at the beginning of the year 2016. The first models not to feature the CD players are Toyota Scion or Honda Civic.
CD players in cars were introduced in the 1980s, and the CDs were a step forward from the cassette tapes. CD provided more quality than the tapes. At that period, CDs were fixed albums, like vinyl records.
