FIA Announces World’s First Intercontinental Drifting Cup
FIA has announced the world's first Intercontinental Drifting Cup which will be held in Tokyo, Japan.
The International Automobile Foundation (FIA) has announced the world’s first Intercontinental Drifting Cup at the fifth FIA Sport Conference in Geneva.
FIA has set unified world regulations for drifting, and the FIA Intercontinental Drifting Cup will be held in Daiba, Tokyo, Japan from September 30 to October 1, 2017.

In July 2016, FIA opened a tender to find a promoter for the drifting cup. Now it has nominated SUNPROS as the sponsor. The company had been hosting the D1 Grand Prix since 2001 and is confident to spread the drifting culture around the globe.
FIA President, Jean Todt, said, “This is the beginning of a very important category for the FIA. As we continue to develop motor sport around the world, drifting has a great appeal to young people and has a passionate core following which is only going to get bigger.”
President of SUNPROS, Saita, said, “We are proud to be able to hold a world competition in Japan with a form of motorsport that originated here.” More details about the competitors, media and spectators will be revealed soon.
