Euro NCAP is an agency which has created the five-star safety rating system to help buyers, their families, and manufacturers compare vehicles easily. This helps them identify the safest choice while buying a new car.
In a recent crash test performed by Euro NCAP, the Volvo S90 & V90 were crash tested. The sedan and the wagon scored full six points in the assessment for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for Pedestrians. Volvo was the first brand to score full marks in this category.
The S90 sedan and the V90 station wagon also scored an impressive five stars in Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian Protection and Safety Assist.
In 2016, both the S90 & the V90 have surged ahead of any model tested by Euro NCAP. On the whole, Volvo has three models at the top of Euro NCAP's best safest vehicles. Apart from the S90 & V90, the XC90 SUV has performed well.
The most significant is the Autonomous Emergency Braking tests, which the S90 & V90 scored full marks. Volvo has been tirelessly working in making their cars safer and as a result, the Advanced Safety system in standard across the Swedish car maker's range of vehicles.
The City Safety feature on the Volvos identifies potential hazards on the road ahead like vehicles, pedestrians, animals, etc.
The Autonomous Emergency Braking system tests are performed to check the capabilities of pedestrian detection system by using a three-way road crossing scenario. All the three would fail if the AEB system does not activate.
Volvo has been working towards autonomous cars and this rating is a shot in the arm for the luxury carmaker. This will enhance the capabilities of Volvo autonomous cars and with City Safety feature in its cars, it will be a key element in reducing accidents and fatalities.
