After Ford And Chevrolet, Trump Takes Aim At Toyota For Building Cars Outside The US
Donald Trump has asked Toyota to build its popular Corolla in the US for the American market and not in Mexico.
US President Elect Donald Trump is taking aim at carmakers manufacturing vehicles outside the country and selling them in the US, with the help of Twitter.
The latest carmaker to come under Trump's scanner is the Japanese carmaker, Toyota, for having plans to build the popular Corolla in Mexico and sell in the US.
Trump, in his tweet said: "Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for US NO WAY! Build plant in US or pay big border tax."
Toyota is the first non-American carmaker to be targeted by Donald Trump. The fact to be noted here is that Toyota already has a plant in Mexico and builds the Tacoma, a pickup truck that is quite famous in the US.
Ford was the first company to come under the firing range of Donald Trump, and had to sack a factory deal worth $1.6 billion that was proposed in Mexico.
Later, Chevrolet too was warned to build the Cruze in the US and not in Mexico. Trump had the same message to Chevrolet as he did for Toyota, "build cars here or pay border taxes".
