CBSE Issues Strict Guidelines For School Buses — Will The Kids Be Safe Now?
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued strict guidelines for school buses, about the exterior, interior, and how it should be operated.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued strict guidelines for school buses, which every school must comply with or will be disaffiliated. The board also stated that the head of the school and management would be held responsible if the new guidelines are not followed.
To start with, all buses must be painted yellow, with the school name written on either side of the bus in a contrasting colour. Also, ‘School Bus' must be written on the front and the rear, and if the bus is a hired vehicle, it should read ‘On School Duty' prominently.
All the buses should be fit with speed governors limiting the bus to 40km/h, and CCTV cameras along with GPS should be installed. The mentioned equipment must be fit by the vehicle owners.
Coming to the interior, all school buses should have windows with horizontal bars and mesh wires. The doors of the vehicles must be fitted with reliable locks that have to be operational.
Now, moving on to more important aspects, the school bus, while transporting children, is not allowed to overtake any four-wheelers. Each bus should have a mobile phone provided by the school and has to make space for children boarding and deboarding.
Incase the school has no space, the bus should be parked in such a way that the vehicle is away from moving vehicles and should not create any traffic hazard for other vehicles.
