Car owners in Korea, between the age group of 20s and 30s, prefer BMWs. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz was preferred more by an older age group. Just take a look yourself at what the industry data revealed.
A total of 144,883 imported cars were newly registered in Korea by individual car owners in 2016. Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) revealed the data on the purchases of imported cars.
The age group between 20 and 30 bought 3,295 and 2,390 BMWs respectively according to the data. BMW was favored as the most-preferred foreign carmaker.
Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, sold 2,171 units and 11,170 units to the people between the age group of 20 and 30 respectively. Car owners cetween the age group of 40s to 70s preferred Mercedes. Moreover, Volkswagen came in at third place for both age groups according to the KAIDA data.

In the bigger picture, the difference between BMW and Mercedes is gradually blurring," said Kim Pil-soo, a professor of automotive engineering professor at Daelim University.
In the age-group of 50-something, Mercedes made up 26.4% i.e. with 6,345 units and BMW could sell 16.6% i.e. 3,981 units. While on the other side, people in the 60-something age-group, Mercedes-Benz cars accounted for 31.2% i.e. 2,949 units and BMW sold only 1,455 units, according to KAIDA.
