BMW is expected to unveil a facelifted i8 Couped along with the Spyder at the 2017 Frankfurt AutoShow

Years after launching the coupe, the much-awaited BMW i8 Spyder appears on the Nurburgring, being pushed hard.

Visually, the changes in the grille, side skirts, and rear are really subtle. Given that it was about time they gave the i8 a facelift, it's not clear that these changes are only for the convertible.

The key difference is, obviously, the roof, which is made out of a fabric. The car looks more like a targa-top than a convertible.

One doubt that revolves around the i8 Spyder is its doors. Only time will reveal if the removable-roof on the i8 will borrow the butterfly doors from its coupe sibling.

Currently, the BMW i8 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre coupled with an electric motor to produce a combined power output of 350 Bhp. The hybrid sports car is capable of reaching 100kh/h in 4.2 seconds.

There has also been a rumor that the i8 could also receive a power upgrade of 10 percent for the i8. To know how much of it is true, we'll have to wait till the 2017 Frankfurt Autoshow in September.
