BMW 6 Series GT India Launch Details Revealed
The BMW 6 Series GT will rival the long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz E-class; local assembly to give the 6 Series GT a competitive pricing.
BMW has revealed that the new 6 Series GT will be launched in India at the 2018 Auto Expo.
The 6 Series GT is essentially a replacement for the 5 Series GT. The decision comes in line with the Bavarians' efforts to place greater emphasis on luxury at the upper end of its line-up.
The 5 Series GT was retailed in India as the BMW Gran Turismo; however, sales were limited. The company will launch the new 5 Series in India on June 29, 2017, and instead of bringing the long wheelbase 5 Series, which is sold in China, to India to rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, the 6 Series GT will rival the E-Class LWB.
In the international market, the BMW 6 Series GT will be retailed with a 2.0-litre petrol (RWD), 3.0-litre petrol (RWD/AWD) and 3.0-litre diesel (RWD/AWD) models, all with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
For India, the 2.0-litre might not be offered as BMW would want the 6 Series GT to be positioned as its flagship sedan unlike the 5 Series, which is expected to bring volumes for the company in India.
BMW might bring the 6 Series GT via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and assemble them at its Chennai plant to keep the pricing competitive.
The BMW 6 Series GT boasts an extensive list of features including adaptive LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 20-inch alloy wheels (or 21-inch alloy wheels from Original BMW Accessories), air suspension, remote control parking, and Remote 3D View.
Additionally, features list includes new-generation head-up display unit with 70 percent increased projection area, four-zone automatic climate control, LED mood lighting, iDrive infotainment system with a freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen and Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with a 10-channel amplifier with an output of 1,400 watts and 16 partially illuminated speakers.

With 2016 belonging to Mercedes-Benz regarding sales, BMW seems to push ahead with new strategies and new models to take on its direct rival. The BMW 6 Series GT is for those who are looking to travel long distances with a spacious cabin along with premium features.
