Indian Racer Arjun Maini Joins Formula One Team
Haas Formula One team has signed Indian race driver Arjun Maini as second development driver. He will continue to compete in GP3 in 2017 season.
American Formula One team, Haas has signed Indian race driver Arjun Maini as its development driver. Maini will join the team as the second development driver alongside Santino Ferrucci.
The 19-year-old racer finished in the second position in the 2014 BRDC F4 Championship. He also competed in European F3 for a full season and also beginning of 2016. But he moved to GP3 in mid-season due to lack of good results.
Maini went on to secure his first podium place in GP3 in his fourth race at Hungaroring. He finished the championship in 10th position despite missing the first two races of the season.
Maini said, "It's an honour to be a part of Haas F1 Team's driver development program. All of my racing to date has been with the focus of becoming a Formula 1 driver, and this opportunity puts me one step closer to my goal."
He added, "I am eager to learn, understand and experience how a Formula 1 team operates. Everything I learn can be used immediately in GP3 while preparing for my ultimate goal of Formula 1."
Maini will continue to compete in GP3 in 2017 with Jenzer Motorsport. He will also attend several Formula One races from Haas' garage and complete simulator tests at the team's Banbury factory.
Haas Team Principal, Gunther Steiner said, "As Haas continues to mature, we must look toward our future and develop potential talent. Arjun was successful in karting and has transitioned well to various series and now GP3. We'll keep a keen eye on his progress this year."
