US tech giant Apple has obtained test permit to test the self-driving cars in California. Read now to get all the details about the Apple's autonomous technology.
US tech giant Apple plans to test autonomous cars on the roads of California. The technology firm wants to design and develop a self-driving technology.
California Department of Motor Vehicles granted Apple an official test permit to test autonomous driving technology. The self-driving technology will be tested in three 2015 Lexus RX 450h hybrid SUVs.
The permit also authorises six people to take control of the vehicle if necessary. Although, Apple was reluctant to reveal details about the project. Internally, the project was code named as ‘Project Titan'.
The tech giant declined to respond on the California permit or about its future automotive plans. The self-driving car segment is one of the most bitter areas in the emerging technology.
Now Apple has joined the group of 29 companies, which have obtained test permits in California. The pioneer of the autonomous driving technology, Google considers self-driving cars to be the potential new market.
Ride-hailing giant Uber is also on the centre stage to develop self-driving cars to eliminate the need for human drivers. Auto giants such as General Motors and Ford consider autonomous vehicles as an extension of their business.
