201bhp Hyundai Elantra GT Sport Unveiled
Hyundai unveiled the 2018 Elantra GT Sport which is 201bhp Nurburgring-tuned hot hatch.
South Korean carmaker Hyundai unveiled the new Elantra GT hot hatch at the Chicago Auto Show. The latest offering from Hyundai will take on the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and the Honda Civic hatch.
The Elantra GT borrows the styling cues from its sedan sibling Elantra. The hatchback is completely designed and developed in Europe and is based on the Euro-spec Hyundai i30. Like the i30, the new model also sports a wider front hexagonal chrome grille with integrated LED DRLs.
Inside, Hyundai claims that the new Elantra GT is the roomiest of all hot hatches in the world. It also offers modern-day safety features and a big infotainment system, which is an 8-inch touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Hyundai debuted the Elantra Sport sedan last year, that comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. The Elantra Sport also uses the same mill that churns out 201bhp of power and 264Nm of torque. The engine comes either mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The standard Elantra GT is equipped with a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine that churns out 162bhp of power. Transmission choices for the base model include a six-speed manual and a torque-converter six-speed automatic.
The driving experience of Elantra GT and GT Sport will be phenomenal as both of them are developed at the Nürburgring. Add to that, the GT Sport has an independent multilink setup at the rear rather than GT's torsion bar.
Scott Margason, Hyundai's U.S. product head described, "More space and features inside. More aggression and European flair outside. And more options under the hood. I'm particularly excited to showcase the GT Sport, a true hot hatch."
