Ishaan Dodhiwala Bags The MMSC Volkswagen Vento Cup 2016 Title — Here’s More
Volkswagen Motorsport India finishes another season of its premium one-make series with the last round of the MMSC Volkswagen Vento Cup 2016.
Hosted at the Buddh International Circuit, the final race started in a reverse grid order and concluded with Karminder finishing first, Ishaan coming in second, and guest racer Rishaad Mody finishing third.
After winning five races and securing seven podium finishes till date, Ishaan had built a strong 32-point lead over Karminder by the end of the season and won the MMSC Volkswagen Vento Cup 2016 title.
The final race began with Niranjan Todkari starting on pole position alongside Affan Sadat, another guest racer from Bangladesh on the first row. However, both were unable to hold on to their position going into the second lap.
Gowtham Murugan, who started fourth on the grid, moved up positions and went on to lead followed by Karminder, Rishaad, and Ishaan.
During lap 2, Ishaan, Rishaad, and Keith fought for the third position which finally broke at the fourth corner of the third lap when Ishaan overtook Rishaad. During lap 4 Gowdham lost his lead with a drive-through penalty for going beyond the track limit.
At this stage, Karminder who was behind Gowtham went on to take the lead in the race. From then on, Karminder stayed ahead.
In the fifth lap, Amit Mete hit the barricades, forcing the Safety Car to come out. Amit was unhurt, but could not continue due to damages sustained by the car.
Jeet Jhabak, the Junior Division driver showed a lot of skill throughout the season and successfully finished the final round.
