Volkswagen Polo GTI Launch Details Revealed — Will It Be Your Next Hot Hatchback?
The launch details for Volkswagen's Polo based hot hatchback have been revealed.
German carmaker Volkswagen unveiled the 3-door Polo GTI hot-hatchback in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
Since then, petrolheads across the nation have been waiting with baited breath for the VW hot hatch to finally hit the streets. Recent reports suggest that the launch of the Polo GTI is set for the middle of November.
The Volkswagen Polo GTI is expected to launch in the same three-door guise that it was seen at Auto Expo though a 5-door version could make its way into the country later depending on the demand for the car.
Powering the fastest Polo is a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that cranks out 189bhp and 250Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends the power and torque to the front wheels.
The Polo GTI is very quick off the line and will sprint from 0 - 100km/h in just 6.7 seconds and will keep on accelerating till it tops out at 250km/h.
Design wise, the Polo features a sleek honeycomb grille up front which is flanked by LED headlamps.
The front bumper is also more aggressive than the one found on the normal Polo and features larger air intakes.
On the side, the Polo GTI features flared out wheel arches. The hot hatch sits on 17-inch alloy wheels which hide disc brakes with red brake calipers.
At the rear, the Polo GTI features a redesigned rear bumper with two tailpipes sticking out of the left side. Also present on the rear is a small roof-mounted spoiler.
The new Polo GTI is expected to be priced at around Rs. 18-20 lakhs, ex-showroom when it finally launches in India.
