Spied: Volkswagen Passat Spotted Testing In India; Launch Imminent?
The upcoming Volkswagen Passat has been spotted testing in India ahead of its launch which is expected to happen early next year.
The new Passat sedan made its debut in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
The test mule which was spotted at a gas station did not have even a spec of camouflage covering its body panels. The test mule shows off an updated front end with a horizontal triple-slat grille which is garnished in chrome.
Flanking the bling grille are headlamps which feature LED Daytime Running Lamps while the slightly tweaked front bumper features LED fog lights.
The new Passat is expected to launch in India with a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol-electric hybrid GTE model, which was seen at the Auto Expo is expected to join the lineup later on. The GTE variant will produce 212bhp and 400Nm. Both variants are expected to be mated to Volksagen's DSG six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
The new Passat is based on VW's MQB platform and is 85kilograms lighter than the model it replaces, which should help the sedan perform better with regards to mileage.
The updated Passat will butt heads with its sibling from Skoda, the Superb, along with Toyota Camry Hybrid.
