Will Volkswagen Exit The World Rally Championship?
According to reports it is said that the German car manufacturer Volkswagen will exit the World Rally Championship due to cost cutting measures by Volkswagen.
After Volkswagen was hit by the emission scandal, the German carmaker found itself in a situation to make up for the damage caused. The company faced huge loss and now trying to make up for it by cutting cost.
This has extended to all Volkswagen Group brands, in latest developments Audi Sport has surprised everyone by bidding good bye to the World Endurance Championship at the end of 2016 season.
Now one of the German motorsport website has reported that the possibility of Volkswagen exiting the WRC is very strong.
Volkswagen has been dominating the WRC since its arrival back in 2013. With Sebastien Ogier alongside his co-driver Julien Ingrassia clinching the title every season since 2013.
According to the reports, it is expected that Volkswagen will end its WRC campaign at the end of 2017 season and earlier exit is very unlikely to happen because the team has already deep into the development of new 2017 car.
Although the possibility of Volkswagen exiting WRC at the end of 2016 season is not being ruled out. Volkswagen had stated that it will stay in WRC until 2019, but this scenario can change over the course of time.
One of the Volkswagen representative at Wales Rally GB stated that the Volkswagen Group is going through difficult times and it was impossible to see into future.
Recently Volkswagen Motorsport's Jost Capito exited Volkswagen and joined McLaren Formula One team. He was responsible for the huge success in WRC and in the development of the WRC car. This may be indicating at the exit of German carmaker from WRC.
Well, not everybody may be surprised by this move from Volkswagen, as the timing might be perfect for this move. As Volkswagen may want to end on a high note in the Championship.
