Volkswagen India has set a personal record by exporting 1,85,000 vehicles. The German-based automobile manufacturer has achieved this feat in a matter of five years. All the vehicles have been exported from Volkswagen India facility in Chakan, Pune.

Export of Volkswagen products from India began back in 2011. South Africa was the very first international market to receive Volkswagen models from the Indian manufacturing unit. Currently, Volkswagen India exports vehicles to over 35 countries during 2016.

During 2015, 55 percent of overall production at Volkswagen India facility was utilised for exports. Global demand for Volkswagen products is extremely high and the Pune plant takes care of this demand. The German-based manufacturer has turned its Indian facility into a global export hub.

At this moment, Polo and Vento models in right-hand and left-hand drive configuration are exported out of Volkswagen India. More than 80 percent of total export models have been consumed by Mexico during 2015.

Currently, Volkswagen offers six models in the Indian market. The Polo, Polo GT, Cross Polo, Vento, Jetta, and Beetle are part of the line-up. At the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi, Volkswagen showcased the Ameo compact sedan, Polo GTI performance hatchback, and Tiguan premium SUV.
