Volkswagen wants to redefine the history by thinking new and has premiered the new "iconic design study" and is introducing a new ambassador to the world of cars. The German automaker has teased a concept car ahead of its unveil at the upcoming Paris Motor Show 2016.
The company claims it to be a signal that the brand is entering a new era as this new EV design language will be as revolutionary as the Beetle. The Beetle went on to become the world's best-selling car of the century. The new concept car, when it goes into production will be the first to be based on the modular electrification kit (MEB).
From the teaser images, the car is reminiscent of the 1960s and 70s-era approach; however, full details will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show 2016. The concept showcases what VW is intended to give its investors and consumer alike.
As the company calls it as "design study" we can expect a lot of new innovation, these might not make it to the final production model. The first of the vehicles based on this new approach would make it to customers by the end of 2019.
Volkswagen has already introduced an electric vehicle concept. Early this year, Volkswagen offered BUDD.e, a microbus concept to confirm its faith in electric vehicles. This came after the diesel emission scandal and hit the branding quite badly.
The company plans on introducing nearly 30 new models in the EV segment in the next 10 years and has set a goal of selling two to three million of the EVs in 2025.
