Volkswagen Could Discontinue Beetle Production Forever
The Volkswagen Beetle is an iconic vehicle that has stood the test of time across the world. Now the German-based automobile manufacturer plans on pulling the plug of its iconic model. Poor sales and low demand for the 2016 Beetle is most likely to be the reason for discontinuation.
The current generation of the Volkswagen Beetle was introduced back in 2011. The iconic model is at this moment in its third generation avatar. Volkswagen plans on not introducing a fourth generation model. Volkswagen wants to focus production on new and popular models.
Internationally, the Beetle hatchback is available in various forms and engine options. Unfortunately, Volkswagen introduced the Beetle in India only in a single avatar with no engine options to choose between. The current-gen VW Beetle was introduced in India by late-2015.
At previous Motor Shows, Volkswagen has showcased several of their upcoming models. The Tiguan, T-ROC concept, and Crossblue model are future models for global markets. Volkswagen will be putting several of these models into production very soon.
During 2015, Volkswagen managed to sell only 64,000 units of the Beetle globally. The German manufacturer sold approximately 1,09,000 units of Beetle back in 2013. Owing to these mixed conditions Volkswagen may even stop production of the Beetle eventually.
