Here is the list of upcoming SUVs in India and it could help you decide on the next car you might want to own.

Tata Hexa

Tata will take the wrap off the Hexa soon with the launch being imminent. The Hexa is a reworked Tata Aria which did not hit the success box.

The auto major has gone back to the drawing board and the Tata Hexa has come out impressive in terms of design. The Hexa looks butch and beefy, specially sculpted to look aggressive with a bold stance.

Not just the looks, the Tata Hexa has credible features like the projector headlamps and LED DRLs. In dimension, the Tata Hexa measures 4764mm in length, 1895mm in width, and 1780mm in height, which reveals a spacious cabin.

The 2.2-litre, four cylinder VARICOR diesel engine will power the Tata Hexa. The engine will be tuned to churn out 154bhp with a peak torque of 400Nm mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and automatic could be a possibility.

Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner

The most popular SUV in the India, the Toyota Fortuner has got the maker with a new generation model. Recent spy picture reveals that Toyota is testing the Fortuner in India suggesting the launch soon.

Toyota has developed the next-gen Fortuner under a new platform, company's latest ‘Toyota New Generation Architecture' (TNGA) platform. This platform is much lighter compared to the old Fortuner, yet stiffer and makes its handling better.

The premium quotient is definitely better than the outgoing model, even its dimensions of the SUV is 90mm longer, 15mm wider and the height it lower by 15mm.

A new GD diesel which includes a 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV unit producing 148bhp and 400Nm of torque. Also, will be seen is the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV unit which develops 177bhp and 450Nm of torque. Both the engines will come with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai will bring the Tucson is fill the position between the Creta and the Santa Fe in the Indian market. The new SUV from Hyundai, the Tucson carries the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language.

Some of the highlights of the Hyundai Tucson are the leather seats, upholstery, instrument panel and the steering wheel, raising the premium quotient.

Also seen are the touchscreen infotainment system, an optional panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, premium audio system with 8 speakers to boast off.

Hyundai will equip the Tucson with driver assisted features like the Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind Spot Detection.

There is no confirmation on the powertrain which will make it to India, however, expect a 2.0-litre diesel engine and tuned in two different formats. The engine will throw a power of 134bhp and 181bhp for the two sets of diesel engines and will be mated to a 6-speed automatic or manual gearbox.

Competitors for the Hyundai Tucson are the Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Toyota Fortuner, and Mahindra XUV500.

Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar's first SUV, the F-Pace is hit the Indian shores and is expected during the festive time this year. India will first get the petrol variant and the diesel will follow.

Jaguar has powered the F-Pace with a 2.0-litre petrol mill, seen in the XE, which produces 177bhp and 240Nm of torque. The diesel variant is expected to be launched later in 2017.

Few mentionable features of the Jaguar F-Pace comewith terrain response system seen in the Range Rovers and many such features which will ascertain its SUV capabilities.

Jeep Grand Cherokee & Wrangler

Jeep will finally set its foot in the Indian market after many years of speculations. Jeep will sell only the Wrangler Unlimited and offer the Grand Cherokee as a limited or summit editions.

The Wrangler Unlimited and the Grand Cherokee will be launched on September 1, 2016, and Wrangler SRT will come in later.

Talking about the SUV to be launched, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be powered by 240bhp 3.0-litre V6 EcoDiesel engine which comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox assisted by paddle shifters.

As for the Wrangler Unlimited, the off-roader will be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine which develops 197bhp and 460Nm of torque.

The Grand Cherokee SRT, on the other hand, will be a performance oriented SUV produces a sheer 475bhp of power from the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine and comes mated to 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The last facelifted Pajero India received was back in 2014, the new facelifted Mitsubishi Pajero will hit the Indian market by this year end.

From the design view, the new facelifted Pajero follows the Dynamic Shield language seen in the Outlander. Apart from that, the new SUV comes with LED DRLs and a huge air dam which makes up the exterior of the Pajero.

Mitsubishi has powered the new Pajero with 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel engine which is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and expected power output of 150bhp.

Once launched, it willgo up against the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, and Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Tata Nexon

The most awaited SUV from Tata Motors will be launched this year and it has already created a lot of hype around it.

Tata Motors has designed the Nexon in the sub-compact SUV segment, which will compete with Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Mahindra TUV300.

The inspiration of the design has been taken from the Range Rover Evoque. However, the Tata Nexon stands on its own with the floating audio system seen in luxury vehicles like Audi and Mercedes.

As for the powertrain of the Tata Nexon with a choice of is a 1.5-litre diesel mill and 1.2-litre petrol engine. Most probably the Tata Nexon's engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual or the AMT which does the duty in the Tata Zest.

Nissan will bring India's first hybrid SUV in the form of X-Trail, the new generation X-Trail is built on new platform and India will be the 4th market to gets its hand on the SUV.

Compared to the old model, the Nissan X-Trail will come with a longer wheelbase, which suggests better leg room inside the cabin.

Doing the duty for the Nissan X-Trail is a 2.0-litre petrol engine combined with a 32kw electric engine. The SUV will come as Completely Built Unit (CBU), hence it will be priced on the higher side.

The Volkswagen Tiguan boasts of features like the Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist, and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System which are all part of the standard equipment.

As for the power, the Tiguan will come with 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine developing 147bhp of power and will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox

The Skoda Kodiaq will be offered in the 7-seater layout and 5-seater as well. Not much is known about the powertrain on the Kodiaq.
