The SUV market has grown in leaps and bounds, even cannibalising the sedan segment in India. This trend is witnessed around the globe. The only other exciting segment is the hatchback cars. Car manufacturers are offering some of the best premium features to keep their hatchbacks attractive and competitive.
The manufacturers have lined up hatchback car launches in the coming months, so let us take a look at the upcoming hatchback cars in India.

1. Maruti Baleno RS
Maruti has lined up a performance oriented Baleno and has beenbadged it with the ‘RS'. The Baleno RS is featured with sporty body kits such as the side skirts, front and rear skirts and has an overall black themed approach.
Apart from the looks, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will be powered by Suzuki's 1.0-litre Booster Jet engine known for its performance and fuel efficiency. The Baleno RS unit will punch out 112bhp and 175Nm of peak torque.

2. Chevrolet Beat
Chevrolet's best-selling car is the Beat simply because it is compact and stylish. One of the first manufacturers in India to provide a diesel unit in small yet peppy cars. The Chevy Beat continues to be among the top exported car for Chevrolet.
The Chevy Beat has been facelifted and the new 2017 model with its smooth lines and is a bit boxy on its front profile. The 2017 Beat features a swept-back headlampand a possibility of LED DRLs. On the side and the rear profile, the styling has been tweaked slightly with new alloy wheels and revised bumper. On the inside, the 2017 Beat is expected with a multi-functional steering wheel and a touchscreen infotainment system.
Chevrolet will power the 2017 Beat with the 1.2-litre petrol mill producing 77bhp and 107Nm of torque, while the diesel unit is expected to be the same as the 1.0-litre churning out 56bhp and 143Nm of torque.

3. Maruti Suzuki 2017 Swift
India was introduced to hatchback segment through Maruti Suzuki's Swift and it continues to be one of the best-selling cars in India. The new 2017 Swift has been spied testing in foreign markets as it is a well-known car there as well.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift will be a lot more aggressive in its looks and will be fully redesigned as compared to the outgoing model. With its large air dam and the angular headlamps the 2017 Swift is bold and butch in its design.
On the interior, the new Swift will be revised with anew touch screen infotainment system and the most of the controls, upholstery, and instrument cluster will go through the change. On the powertrain front, the 2017 Swift is expected to get the 1.0-litre Booster Jet and 1.2-litre petrol engines. This will be tied to either the 5-speed manual or the CVT automatic gearbox.
The 2017 Swift will be offered with the 1.3-litre diesel mill as well.

4. Maruti Suzuki Ignis
After showcasing at the 2016 Auto Expo held in Delhi, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has caught the attention of the buyers. The Ignis is more of an SUV though the dimensions look like a hatchback.
So why term it as a micro-SUV? The Ignis will feature higher ground clearance of 180mm and above, will be offered with 4WD and is expected to feature off-road capabilities. Apart from that, it has been styled with plastic cladding around the wheel arches, side and the rear.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol and the choice of 1.3-litre diesel unit which is tied either to a 5-speed manual or the CVT automatic gearbox.

5. Honda WR-V
The Honda WR-V is the crossover based on the Jazz model. The Japanese carmaker has recently revealed the WR-V and the front profile has gone through plenty of changes, which makes it look tougher and aggressive.
Honda WR-V will rival the likes of Volkswagen Cross Polo, Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, and the Etios Cross. One the side and the rear profile there is not much of a change; however, it will sport the plastic cladding on the side, wheel arches and with skid plates at the front and rear.
On the inside there will hardly be any changes to the Honda WR-V compared to the Jazz as Honda will look to cut cost by sharing most of the products from the Jazz. Honda will offer the WR-V with the same engines as the Jazz which is either the 1.5-litre petrol or the diesel unit.

6. 2017 Nissan Micra
Nissan has unveiled the 2017 Micra recently and the new hatchback from Nissan looks aggressive and bold compared to the outgoing model. While the current Micra model looks conventional with its smooth lines, the 2017 Micra looks sharp.
On the inside, the 2017 Micra will feature new instrument cluster, controls and a new touchscreen infotainment system. Nissan is expected to power the 2017 Micra with the 900cc turbocharged petrol mill tied to both manual and the CVT automatic gearbox.

7. Tata Tiago AMT
Tata Motors have found their mojo back with the Tiago, the small car is the best-selling car currently for the homegrown automaker. The next logical step is the AMT version of the Tiago; however, the exterior, interior and features are expected to be the same as the current manual gearbox model.
The Tata Tiago AMT will be powered with the choice of the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol mill or the 1.3-litre Revotorq diesel unit. Of course, the engine will be mated to the AMT gearbox.
