Uber Looking To Buy Self Driving Cars
App based ride sharing service Uber has sounded out major automakers about placing a large order for their automated cars.
Uber, which is currently running at a loss and turning its fleet into an automated one would help them remove the biggest hurdle towards making a profit - paying their drivers.
German business magazine Manager Magazin has reported that Uber had placed an order for at least 100,000 Mercedes S-Class cars citing sources at both companies.
However, a Reuters source familiar with the story has stated that no such order has been placed.
Uber may not get a friendly reception from automakers, who who feel threatened by the comapny' ride sharing business which threatens their model of business, which involves building and selling cars.
