Is Olympic Gymnast Dipa Karmakar Facing Issues Owning A BMW?
Dipa Karmakar is facing trouble with her BMW because the roads are narrow and now, the Tripura Government has a solution to that.
The government of Tripura is all set to widen a road near the house of Olympic gymnast Dipa Karmakar, so that a BMW that was presented to her by cricketer Sachin Tendulkar could fit.
According to State Unit secretary Bijan Dhar, Dipa had earlier requested the civic authorities to widen the road. Dhar said, "I was told the road will be revamped following her request to the mayor and Urban Development Minister in this regard."
The Secretary also informed that the government would spend approximately Rs 70 to Rs 80 lakh in the project.
Recently, Dipa's coach, Bisheswar Nandi had said that the Olympic gymnast would return the car to the original owner, Chamundeswaranath, the president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association.
Both Olympic medalists, PV Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi Malik were presented BMWs by Sachin Tendulkar at a function held in Hyderabad.
Nandi had mentioned the issue of maintaining the car in a city like Agartala where the roads are narrow and are not well-maintained.
He said, "It wasn't Dipa's decision, but a collective decision, taken by her family and me. Primarily, there are two main reasons behind it. First, there is no BMW service center in Agartala and secondly, the roads are not suitable to drive a car like BMW."
Dhar said, "The decision to return the car was taken by the family of Dipa, her coach and their association. We respect their decision. But as we feel proud of Dipa, she should also feel proud of Tripura".
